How to Convert OFT Files to OST Format

OFT files are Microsoft Outlook email template files that store the layout and design of an email message, including formatting, images, and text. They are used for creating new messages with specific formatting and content. On the other hand, OST files are used by Outlook to store synchronized offline copies of your mailbox data. If you want to import a template to a storage file, one approach could be to convert the OFT template into an email message (MSG file) and then save it within the OST file alongside other mailbox data.

Aspose.Email for Java is a powerful API that provides comprehensive functionality for working with email messages, contacts, calendars, and tasks in Java applications. To convert OFT files to OST format, the library offers the PersonalStorage class which is used to open a storage file, allowing access to its content and structure, the MapiMessage class used to load and manipulate an email message stored in MSG format, and the FolderInfo class representing a folder within the storage file and making it possible to manipulate its content. In the code sample below, these classes work together to open an OST file, load an OFT file as a MAPI message, and add the message to the Inbox folder within the OST file. Steps to Convert OFT to OST via Java

Java programmers can easily convert OFT file to OST in just a few lines of code.

  1. Open the OST file using the PersonalStorage.fromFile method, specifying the path of the file.

What is OFT File Format?

Files with .OFT extension represent message template files that are created using Microsoft Outlook. The pre-formatted layout set for message templates is then used for sending out emails with common information to save time. Such files can be generated by creating a new email, adding necessary information and then using the Save As Office Template (*.oft) dropdown from Microsoft Outlook.

What is OST File Format?

OST (Offline Storage Table) file format is a file that stores a copy of mailbox items from an Exchange server, allowing users to access their mailbox data even when they are offline. OST files are synchronized with the Exchange server when a connection is established, ensuring that any changes made offline are updated on the server as well. OST files are used by Microsoft Outlook for email, contacts, calendars, tasks, and other mailbox items in an Exchange environment.
