Create an HTML <input> URL Field Online
The HTML URL Input Generator creates an <input type="url"> field for entering a web address. Set its form name, placeholder, validation pattern, and visible size; the preview, HTML output, and C# output update together.
Browsers apply URL syntax checks during form constraint validation when the field has a non-empty value. The optional pattern adds another regular-expression constraint; it does not replace the URL check.
URL Input Generator Options
- Name sets the field’s
namefor form submission. - Placeholder displays a short hint while the field is empty.
- Pattern adds a regular expression that the entered URL must match. The default
https://.*pattern restricts non-empty values to the HTTPS scheme. - Size sets the field’s approximate visible width in characters; it does not limit the number of entered characters.
Use a positive whole number for Size. The generator restores the default value of 20 when the entered size is invalid.
Create an HTML URL Input in C#
The C# panel shows how to create the configured URL field with Aspose.HTML for .NET . The generated code follows this workflow:
- Create an
HTMLDocument. - Create an
HTMLInputElementwithCreateElement()and set itsTypetourl. - Assign the field name and
Size, then add the optionalplaceholderandpatternattributes. - Add the field with
AppendChild()and writeurl-input.htmlwithSave().
Configure the URL field first, then copy the updated C# code into your .NET project.
HTML URL Input Generator FAQ
1. What does <input type="url"> validate?
For a non-empty value, browser constraint validation checks whether the text is a syntactically valid absolute URL. It does not verify that the address exists, responds, or is safe to visit.
2. Why can the generated URL field be submitted empty?
The generator does not add the required attribute, so an empty value does not cause a value-missing error. Add required after copying the markup when the form must reject an empty field.
3. How does the pattern attribute work with a URL input?
The browser applies the regular expression as an additional constraint to a non-empty URL value. The value must satisfy both URL syntax validation and the complete pattern, so test the expression with every URL form you intend to accept.
4. Why does the default pattern use https://.* instead of https://*?
In a regular expression, * repeats the character immediately before it; it is not a standalone wildcard. The .* sequence means zero or more characters, so https://.* correctly accepts text after the HTTPS prefix.
5. Does the size attribute limit URL length?
No. The size attribute controls the field’s approximate visible width in characters. Use maxlength separately if the form must impose a maximum number of entered characters.
