What is INTERLEAVED2OF5 Barcode?
Interleaved 2 of 5 is a numeric symbology that encodes data in the widths (lines) between bars. It is used extensively in industrial applications where a relatively large amount of data needs to be encoded in a relatively small amount of space. Interleaved 2 of 5 is a continuous symbology, which means that there is no defined start or stop character. The symbology can be used in both directions (left-to-right or right-to-left).The symbology is named interleaved because the data is encoded in a pattern that alternates between bars and spaces. Each character is made up of 5 bars and spaces, with 2 bars and spaces making up one unit. The first character is made up of bars 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, while the second character is made up of bars 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. This pattern continues until all characters have been encoded. The symbology can encode any numeric data, but it is most commonly used to encode pairs of digits. Each pair of digits is encoded in one character. For example, the number 1234 would be encoded as follows:1 2 3 4The number 1234 would be encoded as the characters 12, 34, 12, and 34.Interleaved 2 of 5 is a very efficient symbology, with each character encoding 4 bits of data. This means that a given amount of data can be encoded in half the space of other symbologies, such as Code 39.Interleaved 2 of 5 is a very popular symbology, and is used in a variety of applications, such as inventory control, shipping, and warehousing.
