How to Convert OST Files to EMLX Format

Converting OST files to EMLX format using Aspose.Email for .NET is a straightforward process that empowers developers to efficiently manage email data. Aspose.Email provides a convenient API to read OST files, extract email messages, and convert them to the EMLX format seamlessly. This conversion preserves the structure and content of the original emails, ensuring that no information is lost during the process. By leveraging Aspose.Email’s powerful conversion capabilities, developers can easily incorporate OST to EMLX conversion functionality into their applications, facilitating seamless migration and interoperability across different email platforms and systems.

To convert OST files to EMLX format, the library offers the PersonalStorage class which is used to open a storage file, allowing access to its content and structure. The FolderInfo class represents a folder within the storage file and makes it possible to manipulate its content. The MapiMessage class provides developers with a comprehensive set of functionalities to work with email messages programmatically, enabling them to efficiently manage, manipulate, and interact with email data within their Java applications. The collection of email messages is stored with the MessageInfoCollection class. With the MessageInfo class, representing information about a specific email message, you can access details of each email message within a folder. Using the SaveOptions and MailMessageSaveType classes, you can specify the format in which the message should be saved, however, SaveOptions class contains a broader set of options and configurations for the save operation, such as specifying the message location, setting encryption options, flags, etc., while MailMessageSaveType class specifically defines the possible formats in which the message can be saved. In the code sample below, these classes work together to load an OST file, retrieve messages from the Inbox folder, extract and save each message as an EMLX file in a destination folder. Steps to Convert OST to EMLX via Java

Java programmers can easily convert OST file to EMLX in just a few lines of code.

  1. Load the OST file “Outlook.ost” with the PersonalStorage.fromFile method.
  2. Retrieve the predefined Inbox folder from the loaded OST file using the getPredefinedFolder .
  3. Get the contents of the Inbox folder as a collection of email message information using the getContents method of the FolderInfo class.
  4. Iterate through each email message in the MessageInfoCollection.
  5. For each email message, extract the message information using the MessageInfo class.
  6. Extract the MAPI message from the OST file using the PersonalStorage.extractMessage method.
  7. Save the extracted MAPI message as an EMLX file in the destination folder “DestFolder” with a filename based on the index using the MapiMessage.save method and SaveOptions.getDefaultEmlx() options.

What is OST File Format?

OST (Offline Storage Table) file format is a file that stores a copy of mailbox items from an Exchange server, allowing users to access their mailbox data even when they are offline. OST files are synchronized with the Exchange server when a connection is established, ensuring that any changes made offline are updated on the server as well. OST files are used by Microsoft Outlook for email, contacts, calendars, tasks, and other mailbox items in an Exchange environment.

What is EMLX File Format?

EMLX is a file format used by Apple Mail. It is a proprietary file format used to store individual email messages on macOS and Mac OS X operating systems. Each EMLX file represents a single email message and typically contains the email’s content, attachments, headers, and metadata. They are usually stored in a nested directory structure on the user’s computer, with each email message saved as a separate file. The EMLX format allows Apple Mail to efficiently manage and store email messages while providing easy access to individual messages for users.
